Peace of Desert

An eroded and arched quartz monzonite rock formation with Joshua trees (Yucca brevifolia) and elegant cirrus clouds overhead. Joshua Tree National Park, California.

I composed and framed this formation so that the cirrus cloud above appears to be arching itself over its top. This formation contains a second small arch, facing west (the setting sun). If you study the wall on the left, there are two panes of light; one large one, one small one to its right, separated by a vertical bar of shadow. There's your clue -now see if you can identify where the second arch is.

It is a photograph of those elements, but it is really about a feeling that neither words nor photographs can adequately capture.
